The Inspiration for the Speakers Trust ?
A man called Andrew Ducker was a member of one of the many speaking clubs in the UK - the Epsom Speakers club in Surrey in the U.K. from 1966 to his tragic early death in 1985. During those years his talents as a speaker developed from nervous first efforts to the culmination of his speaking career when in 1984 he addressed an international audience of more than one thousand members of Toastmasters International at a convention in Santa Ana, California.
Andrew gained a lot from speakers clubs but he put back even more: by his example he inspired many young (and not so young) novices to pluck-up the courage to walk up to the lectern and speak. But most of all Andrew worked tirelessly on the task of promoting speakers clubs, so that many more men and women would have the opportunity to improve their speaking abilities by belonging to a speakers club.
This trust was established in 1987 to promote the ideals that Andrew worked so hard for, so that many more men and women can benefit from having the confidence to stand up and say a few words.
